Francization
French is the common and official language of Québec. Communicating in French allows for full participation in Québec society, particularly in the job market.
The Government of Québec offers free French courses to all persons 16 years of age and older who are living in Québec, who are not subject to mandatory school attendance and who wish to receive French learning services, as well as to persons who are planning to settle in Québec. These courses may be eligible for financial assistance under certain conditions.
Intensive full-time courses
This program is intended for those who:
- Reside in Québec
- Do not have a sufficient knowledge of French for everyday life or work
- Are 16 years old or older
- Have an immigration status that allows it
It is offered four times a year, 30 hours per week. The schedules are 8:30 am to 3:15 pm or 9:45 am to 4:30 pm (with a lunch break of 45 minutes).

Part-time courses
We do not offer regular part-time courses of French courses by The government of Québec at the Cégep.

Specialized courses
Le cégep du Vieux Montréal offers part-time evening French classes to meet specific career needs. These courses are intended for candidates with intermediate to advanced level of French with work experience in the following fields:
- Health
- Nursing care
- Engineering and applied sciences
- Management, law and business
These courses have the same conditions as the part-time courses.
